Jewlp

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 24, 2026

This policy explains what Jewlp collects when you use jewlp.com, why, who sees it, and what you can do about it. It is part of our Terms of Use.

1. What we collect

Things you give us

  • Account: your name, email address, and a password, which we store only as a one-way hash. Optionally, a home neighborhood you choose to save for nearby results.
  • Content you post: listings, reviews, ratings, photos, logos, menus, replies, events, job posts, and requests. Listings include the business’s contact details, which are meant to be public.
  • Invitations and referrals: if you invite someone, or sign up through someone’s referral link or code, we record who referred whom.
  • Claims and disputes: what you tell us when claiming a listing or disputing a review.
  • Email: anything you send to admin@jewlp.com.

Things we collect automatically

  • Usage: pages viewed, searches (the words, filters, and area), taps on call, WhatsApp, directions, and website buttons, listings you view, favorites and saved searches, sign-ups, and log-ins.
  • Device: device type (phone, tablet, desktop), browser, operating system, and the referring page.
  • Approximate location: country, state, and city, estimated from your IP address at the moment of the request using a database on our own server. We do not store your IP address with analytics events.
  • Technical logs: error and request logs that may include a request ID, the page, and your account ID, kept for troubleshooting.

Location you share

  • “Use my location” sends your device’s coordinates to run that one search. We do not save them to your account.
  • Home neighborhood is stored on your account until you remove it.

About religion

Jewlp is a Jewish community site, so using it or posting on it may suggest a religious affiliation. We do not ask about or record your religion, and we do not use your membership to infer it for any purpose.

2. Cookies and local storage

  • jewlp_session keeps you logged in. It is removed when you log out and otherwise expires on its own.
  • jewlp_vid is a random, anonymous visitor ID so we can count visits and see which pages matter, without knowing who you are.
  • Google Analytics cookies (names beginning with _ga) on public pages. See section 4.
  • Your browser also keeps small conveniences locally, such as your recent searches. Clearing site data in your browser removes them.

3. How we use information

  • Running the Service: accounts, search, listings, reviews, favorites, nearby results, and events.
  • Moderation and safety: reviewing submissions and detecting duplicates, fakes, and abuse.
  • Communication: emails about your account, your submissions (approved or needs changes), replies to your reviews or requests, job renewal reminders, monthly statistics for owners of claimed listings, and password resets.
  • Understanding use: which categories and areas people search, which devices they use, and where visitors are, so we can improve the directory and decide where to expand.
  • Legal: complying with the law and enforcing our Terms of Use.

4. Analytics

We use two kinds of analytics.

  • Our own analytics, stored on our server as described above, without IP addresses.
  • Google Analytics on public pages only. Google sets cookies and receives your IP address and usage data under Google’s privacy policy, and may use it as described there. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or a content blocker; the Service works without it.

5. What is public

  • Reviews and ratings, with your display name and the date.
  • Listings you add, including the business’s contact details. A listing you recommend shows that a member recommended it, without naming you.
  • Events, job posts, requests, and replies you post, with your display name where it is shown.
  • Owner replies to reviews, shown under the business name.
  • Members-only listings are visible only to logged-in members, but any member can see them, so treat them as public.

Your email address is never shown publicly. Jewlp staff and moderators can see it.

6. Who we share it with

  • Service providers that help us run Jewlp: our hosting provider (servers in the United States), our email provider for the emails described above, Google Analytics, and map and address-lookup providers based on OpenStreetMap. When a map loads, your browser requests the tiles directly, which sends your IP address to the map provider. When you search by address, our server sends the address text to the lookup provider.
  • Business owners who have claimed a listing see aggregate statistics such as views, taps, and saves. They never see who you are.
  • Other members see your display name and content when you reply to a request or review.
  • Legal: when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect Jewlp, our members, or the public.
  • A successor if Jewlp is reorganized, sold, or merged. We would tell you.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

7. Emails we send

We send transactional emails only: account and password messages, submission status, replies to your reviews and requests, job renewal reminders, moderation notes, and a monthly statistics digest to owners of claimed listings. We do not send marketing newsletters today. If we start, we will ask first, and you will be able to opt out.

8. How long we keep it

  • Account data: for as long as your account exists, plus a short period in backups.
  • Content: until you delete it or we remove it. Removed listings and reviews may be kept as moderation records.
  • Analytics and logs: for as long as they are useful for the purposes above, then pruned. Aggregate statistics may be kept indefinitely.

9. Your choices and rights

  • Edit your name, email, home neighborhood, and password at Edit profile.
  • Edit or delete your reviews, edit your listings, and remove favorites and saved searches from your profile.
  • Delete your account: email admin@jewlp.com from the address on your account. We delete your account and personal data. Reviews and listings you posted may be removed or kept without your name, at our discretion.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics as described in section 4.

State privacy laws, for example in California, Virginia, Colorado, and Connecticut, may give you rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and not to be treated differently for exercising them. Email us and we will verify you through your account email and respond within the time the law requires. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

10. Children

Jewlp is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we delete it.

11. Security

We use HTTPS, store passwords only as hashes, and limit access to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If you see a problem, tell us at admin@jewlp.com.

12. Where your data lives

Our servers are in the United States. If you use Jewlp from elsewhere, you agree to your information being processed in the United States.

13. Changes to this policy

We update this policy as Jewlp changes. The date at the top tells you when. Material changes are posted on the Service or emailed to account holders.

14. Contact
